Accident of VL-BCY - DC-7C Ser. 45545
at Uli Airport Biafra on December 8th, 
at approx. 00:55 HR Biafra time.

Observations made at scene of accident:

Item No. 1 Found no. 4 engine ser. no. 7006 plus nacelle and approx. 20 foot of wing 300 meters further on impossible to tell position of flap cylinder
Item No. 2 Found propeller assy. near engine no. 4 - one blade in reverse position with propeller hub broken
Item No. 3 Approx. 500 meters from tree found propeller assy. 4026 (no. 3 position) in fine pitch, blade no. 4049 in reverse position with dome and hub broken
Item No. 4 Nearby found portion of right wing - landing light in up position and intact
Item No. 5 Portion of co-pilots instrument panel showed that the tb-indicator was in full left bank
Item No. 6 Found engine no. 3 minus reduction gear and rear section 600 meters from tree
Item No. 7 Found altimeter set at 1013 reading 400 feet
Item No. 8 Found gauge BMEP no. 3 reading 264, 650 meters from tree
Item No. 9 Found parts of pedestal which indicated that all four fuel shut-off valves were in rich position
Item No.10 Found two more engines in the area completely burned out
Item No. 11 At 800 meters found tail-plane minus fin
Item No. 12 Debris scattered up to 850 meters from tree

Other relevant observation:
The meteorological office of Biafra reported seeing a flash and hearing an explosion at approximately 00:52 hrs Biafra time.
There was a cloud formation at base leg - base of clouds being somewhat less tahn 500 feet.
It is being assumed that the captain was attempting a VFR approach and came in contact with subject tree at base leg.
Co-pilot reported downwind at 05:00 hrs. At 00:52 hrs he requested that the runway lights be turned up. No malfunctions were reported. That was the last contact with the aircraft.
It should be remarked, that a Constellation crashed near the same are about eight months ago.
During the entire investigation no proof was found nor were there any indications that there had been any military action directed against the aircraft.
